Why is Workplace Safety and health important?

Workplace safety and health is important because  it protects the well being of everyone working at the workplace. Looking into this helps to prevent accidents or injuries in workplace,thus making a good business sense. There would be increase in number of staff since everyone desires to work in a safe and protected atmosphere. Workers like me should always wear the right safety equipment  when working and should stay alert to any types of advance warning.

As the injured man in the video, the accident affected not only me but also people around me especially my loved ones. I will need to bear the pain of losing one arm and the trauma would haunt me for life. My wife and daughter will feel deep sorrow for me. My daughter who is a young child would be emotionally and mentally affected after seeing me without one arm anymore and no longer being able to help her tie her shoelace. This might affect our bond as father and daughter.

Furthermore, I am the provider of my family so my family will greatly suffer in terms of finance since I will no longer be able to help as much as I could before. My wife will need to work extra harder to earn enough to feed us and pay my hospital bills. She might be stressed on how much work she needs to do. This might affect our family relationship negatively. In the worst case scenario, my daughter might not even be able to go school if there is shortage of money. As a result, my daughter’s future could be at stake due to lack of education. Since I am right-handed and have lost my right arm, I will need to depend on my wife for almost everything even eating. Therefore, causing more stress to my wife who will need to handle many things in the house.

When I saw my wife and daughter, I felt helpless and sorry for them.

I realised that accidents can happen in any second due to anyone’s recklessness. Not every time can oncoming accident be predicted because it can happen anytime and anywhere.

Next time I will check around me for any types of hazards before I put my hand inside the machine when fixing. I will take precautions and stay alert during work.
